The Project: “Hidden Talents”
The Status: Planning
The Story:
Do you have a talent? Do you dream of performing on stage? The glow of the stage lights. The sound of your adoring fans screaming your name. The spotlight is on you. I’ll provide the audience, you provide the performance. Let's put on a show.
The Concept:
Everyone loves a talent show. Do you have talent? Can you sing? Dance? Are you a magician? Comedian? Do you have an act? This will be a platform to showcase it. You, the viewer, can submit a 10-15 minute video of yourself performing your talent to me. I will provide some guidelines and preferences on the technical side. As long as you follow them, I will be able to take your raw footage and edit it into a professional-looking performance. Can you imagine the people watching at home?
When you read about this opportunity, I’m sure some other shows come to mind. America’s Got Talent, American Idol, Star Search, what makes this show different? It’s accessible to all. Imagine all the singers and actors from California or the New York area. Are these areas of the country just naturally more talented? Or is it that talent has to come to Hollywood before they’re noticed? Hidden Talents comes to you. No matter where you live, in urban or rural areas, poor or rich neighborhoods, domestically or internationally, you can submit your talent. Imagine the talent scouts watching the show, looking for the next great performer.
My only rule for submissions is that your talent must be marketable. What do I mean by that? Imagine performing your talent on a Vegas stage. Will people buy a ticket to see what you can do? Can you write in calligraphy? Are you an expert at folding origami? Are you a hand shadow performer? That’s very impressive, but you’d better figure out a way to make that talent into a marketable show, because I can’t see it. So, while it would be interesting to see someone submit a video using their tongue to tie knots in cherry stems, it's best not to submit them to me. And while I’m at it, to the Jackass/stupid stunts crowd out there, if your talent is to hurt yourself in some way deliberately, your submission will be disqualified. Please refrain from submitting those types of videos to me.
What does this project need?
Funding: Along with every other Majestic Media Project, funding from you is the primary resource that gives us the freedom to create.
Producer/Talent Scout: Someone to review submissions with me and determine which videos receive the complete Hidden Talents treatment for an episode.
Curator Benefits:
Every talent show needs judges, right? What if you’re the judge? What if a week or so before an episode is released, it’s previewed to the curators? You can then leave comments on the performance that I can then incorporate into the episode. Are you more of a Paula, a Randy, or a Simon Cowell?
